~ June 1, 2005 Meeting Notes ~

The Practice: Some summary comments on the chapters:

- Self Control -
True spiritual self-discipline (or self control) holds believers in bounds, but never in bonds. Amen. You want freedom?? Then grow in the Grace of self control, and you will experience the same liberation of those who, under the guidance and grace of the Holy Spirit, are freed from the shackles of self indulgence (gluttony, laziness, impurity and anger) and are brought into the freedom of true spiritual discipline.

- Faithfulness -
Many people will profess faithfulness, but few will demonstrate (or practice) it. It starts with knowing God's faithfulness to you, and ends with a commitment to 1) absolute honesty (tell any 'social' lies lately?), utter dependability (like coming to our meetings out of respect for your brothers), and unswerving loyalty (love with no condemnation). Remember the verse from Luke 16:10, paraphrased, "If you're faithful in small things, you will be faithful in the big ones.....and visa versa". Just like being graceful.

- Peace -
This is what everyone seeks. We need to be at peace with God first, then we can be at peace with ourselves and with others. Jesus has already told us that we will not find peace (but trouble) in the world, but He has overcome the world - John 16:33. Believe it. So why do we worry (no peace)?? It's because we either don't believe Jesus can do it, or we doubt that He will do it. Let's fight this off by meditating on Philippians 4:6-7...one of our memory verses so pull out that card. Peace comes when we pray to God for ourselves and others (supplication), with thanksgiving, - when you can be thankful for whatever gets thrown your way (and others), you will begin to understand the peace that exceeds all comprehension.,

- Homework -
Contemplate the items you wrote down concerning gluttony, laziness, anger, dishonesty, not being dependable, disloyalty, and struggles with God, yourself and others.......and talk about them in the coming week in your small groups. You'll be blessed for it.
